Crowns of Yellowwood I + II
These round abstract ornaments bare the story of various walks through life, and scenery along the way. The holiday season is one that reminds us to approach our journey with a grateful heart, to give freely and often, and to find joy in the present moment, with the ones we hold dear.
Each set of ornaments are reminiscent of a different journey, and the lessons it holds. As with my larger work, I wanted to create a feeling where I can connect with the viewer through story. Each layer adding beauty to the whole.
Perfect as a gift or memento, these ornaments can’t help but capture the eye. These are hand painted flat ball ceramic ornaments, layered with a combination of metallic inks, metallic and acrylic paints. Each ornament is sealed with clear varnish for protection. Finishing touches include a delicate silk chiffon ribbon, a Woke Studio eye and 2021 charm, and my signature on the back.
Each of these groupings is named after a tree it was reminiscent of, both in feel and in meaning. Yellowwood trees are rare trees native to isolated portions of the southeastern United States. Robert Frost refers to “yellow wood” in his famous poem “The Road Not Taken”. It is often interpreted as symbolism of the transitory nature of human life, and to the ‘autumn’ of the poet’s life.
